Sonic Arts Week .

June 25th - July 4th 2026

SOUND ART PLAY

Sonic Arts Week is a free and accessible festival that focuses on sound as an artistic medium. Sonic Arts Week takes shape through a curated programme of workshops, soundwalks, performances, interactive installations and exhibitions. Sonic Arts Week was founded by Liam Slevin and is co-curated with sound artist/educator Nell Catchpole.

Over the years we’ve cruised down the River Tees with wireless headphone sets playing music made from the River Tees. In 2019 we created this using the vibrational sounds of the bridges along the Tees, and in 2021 we recorded underwater. We've transformed bikes into musical instruments that turn air quality into music and rocked lunchtime concerts at Centre Square. We’ve taken over captain Cook Square with a dance troupe DnB rave and had a giant sound horn wheeled around town.
