7xSeven: A summer series and seven day stretch of one night exhibitions in our Gallery Pod; showcasing works by regional painters, photographers and sculptors.

For this series we reached out to the local scene and selected artists based off discussions with organisations Navigator North, Pineapple Black, Pink Collar Gallery, Python Gallery and Heritage Gallery.

Curated by Liz Brady (Broken Grey Wires), this exhibition created a space for audiences to catch their breath and explore the mental health crisis through an ambitious and challenging project.

Through our personal understanding of mental ill health, Broken Grey Wires creates spaces for people to experience madness in a radical and ambitious, yet safe environment.

Using alum as a mordant and bloodroot and madder as colorants, participants joined jade to hand dye cottons and silks, in futile attempt of trying to achieve the ‘boro red shade using only natural materials.

Exhibition - Untold Stories From Little Voices With Wild Ideas showcasing some of the most incredible stories and art in the form of Clay, Drawing, Sound and Song created during the campfire project workshops at East Durham Creates Art Café

Back in 2022, the Auxiliary Project Space proposed ‘From the Campfire to the Hearth’ and invited Nell Catchpole, Chris Suttie and Liz Collier alongside several other artist-facilitators to collaborate which resulted in a series of Campfire Events, workshops and concluded with an exhibition of works produced throughout the project.

With an exhibition title borrowed from Alaska Thunderfucks infamous and hilarious advert on Rupauls Drag Race Allstars season 2 for Fashion tape. This show takes these words 'Stunning, Fierce & Yellow' as its starting point, building an exhibition layered with materials, culture (low/high) and in some cases just through the artists use of the colour yellow.

A Celebration of Queer Culture in the world Science Fiction

Using the research of contemporary theorists and philosophers in order to explore the history of Queer Culture and consider what the future may be, the narrative and direction we are heading. this solo show consisted of animations, digital creations, and sculpture alongside a publication developed by the artist.

Spatial Narratives, at The Auxiliary Project Space, Middlesbrough, is the first solo exhibition by artist Loucey Bain, and it coincides with The Auxiliary’s fourth anniversary as an organisation. Spatial Narratives was a result of Bain’s year-long embodied research into the visual narratives and social relations of The Auxiliary building, drawing on her roles as artist, studio holder and gallery assistant.

Hope Amid the Cynicism - Dead Reckoning is the process of calculating your direction by using a previously determined position. It is thought that Dutch sailors threw dead bodies overboard to calculate their future route.

Stroke/Slow Burn presented by Tony Charles and Saturaion Point.

Comprised of two main elements; firstly, a selection of his ‘Unpaintings’. Work which he has become known for consisting of imposing metallic pieces that are both paintings and presentations of an industrial process. The second is Stroke, a sculptural steel installation which challenges the preconception of steel being strong and robust and is made from borrowed steel from a steel stockist, potentially leading to an unintended purchase of his art.

Legacy: 50 Years of Painting in the Tees Valley.

Conversations in Painting was a project led by Sarah Clooney and Philip Gatenby showcasing a selective review of non-representational approaches to fine art practice. With Public events and workshops that were scheduled throughout the duration of the show that brought together guest practitioner, curators, writers, students and members of the public as co-participants in seminars and panel discussions.

A Study of Place, ‘Field Study’ was a group show bringing together 6 artists based in Britain and Ireland. Each artists explores and sets out to uncover how place and people evolve over time. This exhibition cannot be discounted as a site specific investigation; set in The Auxiliary gallery and warehouse which sits in the border between central Middlesbrough and the area where the town was ‘born’.
