Auxiliary Update

April is a special month for The Auxiliary. We moved into our very first space, on Shaftesbury Street in Stockton, in April 2016. We got the keys for the warehouse on Station Street in April 2019. And starting this April 2023, we are now an organisation of the Arts Council's National Portfolio. We are, as they say in Ireland, pure delighted. Thanks to everyone who has supported and helped us along the way.

2016
Move into Shaftesbury Street in Stockton and begin an artists residency. Over 40 artists stay with us from October 2016 until October 2019.

2017
The very first MAW! Based on Albert Road.

2018
The warehouse: After we held an exhibition for MAW18 here, we decided to rent out the building.

2019
Our first studios. ADA comes to Boro with support from Tees Valley Combined Authority.

2020
We do a feasibility report on the building with the aim of buying it to secure space for artists.

2021
Increase our studio provision, from five studios to seventeen.

2022
Buy the building with support from Arts Council England, Key Fund and Middlesbrough Council. Middlesbrough are successful with CDF funding for Platform A, MIMA, The Library and Auxiliary. Successful with NPO.

2023
A major refurbishment is planned and will see an increase in studios, support for regional artist development.
